April Showers - STEM

At the end of last week and the beginning of this one the class was engaged in our final STEM project of the year. This time some of the standard procedures changed.
First, the class decided the criteria, or rules, for the project.
Second, all materials were given out in bags to each group. In the past a material manager has been able to come get any materials I have available to build their projects. Although the materials were preselected they could barter with other groups for things they needed. Since we learned about bartering in economics this was fun to see them put a new concept into action.
The class had a great time building their "umbrellas" and testing them on my own kids' stuffed animals. All but one "umbrella" kept the animal dry.
Good news, my son Alex forgave us :)

Class Party

Today was our class compliment party. The kids voted on a "teacher's choice" party which all I told them was that I would surprise them.
Well today I did! I surprised them with a class picnic outside followed by chalk and bubbles for all! If you ever want your kids to enjoy life like 6 and 7 year olds should, give them bubbles! We loved every minute in the sun! As an added bonus each child is bringing home a bubble wand (unless they used all their bubbles :) and a box or bag of chalk (some of the boxes broke.)
I know the photos don't let you share the joy, but it's a small piece of happiness!
